Enabling VP and SVP Performance

Augmenting their capabilities and capacity for successful strategy execution

As top executives lean on SVPs and VPs to expedite strategy, what type of support do the SVPs and VPs need?

Having held full-time senior executive positions in large organisations, I am very aware of the demands on time, energy and emotions. These demands put a lot of pressure on us, stretching our capacity for thinking at the depth and breadth that is often required for the situations we are managing, or ability to articulate our decisions with the clarity and simplicity needed to motivate aligned actions upstream and downstream.

For a start, VPs and SVPs are probably

  • Coming up with a brilliant ideas but do not get the time or the right partner resource to build and shape it further, to take it to a presentable and actionable state

  • More often than they'd like, finding it challenging, given alternate pressing priorities, to solve for problems for which they have probably figured out a potentially viable line of action, but do not have the resources to support in fleshing it out and delivering on it

  • Struggling to find professional partnerships (not vendors) who can operate as sounding boards, people who understand the uniqueness of the challenges at this career level, the spirit of partnership and co-creation, and have the expertise needed to not only help you define the problem situation, but also help discover and build solutions

They know with the team they have, they can do and achieve a lot more if they had the right type of outside help. The right partner at the right time can make all the difference.

Successful strategy execution is about aligning other people's actions with your decisions

Strategy execution is a series of ongoing adaptive, situational and contextual decisions at varying inflexion points in the system. Strategy execution is about activating varying levels of downstream activities that are ideally based on the principles, assumptions and hypothesis of the underlying strategy, while simultaneously testing, validating and updating the same principles, assumptions and hypothesis so as to ensure continued alignment to the intended results or goals.

Anyone at the VP or SVP level will be operating at these inflection points and will face the realities and attendant challenges already described.

Now is the time to empower aspirational and growth performance in your VPs and SVPs with strategic thinking, creative problem solving, and execution agility - “the answers are all around us, if only we know what questions to ask”

As a senior people leader, I am inviting you to take advantage of a one month free trial where we will partner with your selected VPs or SVPs on a one to one basis.

If your VP or SVP is engaged in a strategic project and you'd like to offer the partnership support in relation to that project, consider our one month free engagement for partnering with organizations which extends the contextual support beyond the individual, to the team and relevant stakeholders.

If you have any questions or need to discuss or confirm unique requirements, please book a free call.
